Psychotherapist & Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor
I am currently accepting new individual, couple, and family clients.
My therapy motto, “Bringing hope and change through client-centered treatment that focuses on the potential for healthier individuals and family systems”, really describes my approach. Through counseling services, I hope you can learn how to see the highest value of yourself, your time, and your health. I hope that you will be able to identify your potential and create direction to allow you to feel confidence, hope, and understand the tools for lasting change. I provide tailored and effective evidence-based mental health and substance use treatment options. members, professional athletes all from various backgrounds and walks of life. I find joy in connecting with others and helping them find ways to improve their lives to live and reach their goals.
I work with children (7+ years old), adolescents, adults, older adults, couples, and families.
Whether you are struggling through lifelong anxiety or depression that restricts your daily life or are struggling with adjusting to new life roles, we will work together to help you with symptom management and new ways to approach life so that you can make it the life you want. Despite your road, hardships, life events, or the inability to shake the changes of our ever-evolving world, I am here to listen and help you find answers, resolution, and comfort so that you can still thrive to live a happier, easier life. A life where you can cope with, and release yourself from past emotional burdens, pain, fears, and the struggles these may bring. I have experience working with transitions related to adjusting to new family roles, employment, care-giving roles, end of life adjustments, acculturation, and immigration, along with other life adjustments. My experiences have provided me with training in effectively treating specifically OCD hoarding and agoraphobia. I enjoy working with people to help them get ‘unstuck’ from both pervasive feelings of being ‘down’, to a recent episode of life changes that have seemed to have taken some uneasy and devastating turns. I want to help you find hope. In my last two years I have placed special focus on working with first responders, military families, completed continuing education in maternal health, disordered eating, working with athletes, and performance anxiety.
Although my approach is very integrative, it has strong foundations in:
I received my Master’s in Counseling Psychology from Pacific University in Oregon. I have served individuals in an Intensive Outpatient Mental Health program, chemical dependency treatment center, school system, and correctional settings since 2010.
I am a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor, Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor, and Licensed Alcohol & Drug Counselor.
I work hard to practice what I teach; I am a family person and have two children. I take pride being a wife, mother, daughter, track & field coach, and paddling coach to many. As an elite science-driven athlete, I am continuously finding new audible books or podcasts to hear the latest bits of sports performance, nutrition research, and firsthand stories. I love being outside not just to follow my athletic pursuits, but because I love being in nature. I homeschool my children and enjoy teaching them valuable lessons of the world and cultures around us. I speak minimal to moderate amounts of Spanish and Afrikaans.
Psychotherapist & Trauma- Sensitive Yoga Facilitator
I am currently accepting new individual and family clients.
I began my career caring for adults. Over the years, I have learned that the sooner we intervene, the better the life outcomes. So, I now also work with children.
The clients that I see tend to want to do well, are eager to excel, and want to be respected and well liked. These clients also tend to have experienced a hiccup that has gotten them off course. They may have had difficulty with peers in school, been passed up for a promotion, experienced a major life event (parenthood, loss of a loved one, marriage, considered their orientation or identity), or experienced a trauma. They may currently take out their difficulties on themselves or others. This might look like arguments, impulsive spending, avoiding, failing classes, spending more time in their room, not taking care of life's needs, low motivation, self injury, thoughts of death, substance use, or apathy. I provide the tools to get them back on track so they can learn to live the lives they want to live.
I work with children (10+ years old), adolescents, adults, and older adults.
Adjustments in life can be difficult to negotiate. Whether you are managing a life change brought about by growth, loss, or trauma, I can help. Together we will explore your strengths to support you through this time, identify skills that may be helpful to add to your tool kit, and process your emotions and thoughts. We will have a shared goal of navigating the ups and downs of life in a way that feels fulfilling, empowering, and allows you to continue progressing towards your goals. I have experience with living abroad, moving within the country, supporting those with substance use, and veterans. My unique training allows me to teach clients about the power of the mind-body connection as a powerful tool for understanding your experience, navigating your emotions effectively rather than allowing your emotions to call the shots, and also to move past trauma. I want to help you learn how to feel empowered and confident in your life. In the last few years I have deepened my skills in the area of the mind body connection and enjoy helping others learn to leverage this connection while they navigate life.
As a mom of two littles, I tend to spend my time running around after them, and also for fun. If you see me out and about, feel free to say "hi". I am an NC native and enjoy connecting with my immediate and extended family. I also like to spend my free time learning about new research based interventions within therapy. Most recently I learned more about trauma informed yoga and how it can help most therapy clients!
I am currently on a waitlist for new individual and family clients.
My therapy motto is "do what works". I am a change oriented therapist who values your time and money and is here to help you make the change that you seek to make. The families and clients that I tend to work with often have seen other providers and are seeking drastic changes, quickly, due to the severity of their difficulties. I view my role as partnering with my clients in creating a life worth living so that they may eventually thrive.
I work with children (6+) and their parents, adolescents, adults, and families
If we meet, you may already had some therapeutic experiences yet you do not yet feel as if your journey is complete. This is not atypical for my clients. I tend to see clients who have needs that go beyond traditional talk therapy. They may seek therapy due to high conflict, severe behaviors such as self-injury, school avoidance, rule breaking, lying/cheating, impulsivity, difficulty maintaining employment, and not fulfilling adult roles effectively (job loss, avoiding conflict, failing classes in college). Together we explore the barriers to being effective, decrease problem behaviors, and increase skillful behavior to support your goals. Parents learn skills so they know when to step in, how to step in and when to disengage so they may stop adding to the problem and allow their child to learn skills of independence and build self-esteem and resilience.
I believe in meeting individuals and families where they are. I do so using evidence based practices and skills. My approach has been influenced in the years of practice and training in:

I have a masters and PhD in psychology. I graduated from UNC and completed my practical training at Duke Medical Center, Wake County Public Schools, a private practice post-doc, and practiced in a local private practice for 6 years. I have been intensively trained in DBT, DBT-C, and CBT. After completing my training I have practiced in local private practice since 2015.
When I am not in the office, you may see me around town with my family, walking my dog, running, or spending time with friends and family. I like to think of myself as a "real" person, and I do a lot of the things others people might do. I love traveling, seeing family, playing board games, watching sports, doing Crossfit, hiking, day dreaming about running another marathon, trying local coffee shops, and starting a new book. I live in Raleigh with my husband of 13 years, our 10 year old twins, and therapy dog. If you see me in public, you are welcome to stop and say "hi" or act like we've never met, whatever feels right to you!
